'68 doesn't sell well.... Easy to believe - just judging by GD forums, it seems only a tiny percentage of Dead fans are into '68, versus all the slobbering hordes that love the '80s. I don't understand it, but there it is....

So it's interesting that the '80s don't get released much on CD. I think the main reason has to be that Lemieux isn't happy with the quality of the PA tapes....(but he promises some '80s coming up....)

Lemieux is so positive about everything....which isn't a bad thing, just the way he is, but I kinda miss a griper like Dick! "Grr, the band wouldn't let me release this show because xxxx...and we're never gonna release that show because it's so overrated & lousy....etc."
Whereas, Lemieux will mildly mention, "I wish we had more flexibility sometimes and do 4-CD sets. But we can't. These are 2-CD sets and I'm a person who lives with the way things are. I don't complain about the way things should be."

ha yeah, Lemiuex needs to stop being a pussy and be more of a "Dick." pun intended.

I get his argument about not all Dick's Picks being complete shows, but at the same time, most of them aren't just 2 discs with crappy limited edition bonus discs. 90% of the Dick's Picks were 3-4 cds, and even more in some cases. And the material was better, imo. heck of a lot better than chopping up some run from 93 and throwing it in some crappy carboard container that destroys your cd after 1 or 2 listens...

Then there is the debate that is always brought up about how they don't make downloads available for the releases. In this day and age, I just don't get that either. In the case of all of these Road Trips and such, I just don't get why they don't make the sets available for download, or make all of the "outtakes" available for download for those who WOULD like the complete show/s. I think they are FAR too neglectful of the fact that there are large numbers of people who get the most excited about these releases and are OCD completetist freaks who WANT the stuff they deem unreleasable because of a poor mix on the first song of the show or because there is a reel flip in the middle of Row Jimmy and whatnot.

10 years ago when there was all that talk about selling the vault and digitizing it and everything I envisioned a day where everything in there would be digitized and you could download whatever you wanted for some kind of flat rate. Certain amount of $$$ per song, per show, whatever. That even the stuff with cuts and crappy mixes and whatnot would still be available to those who REALLY wanted it (I think this idea might have been tossed about in the "Terrapin Station" pipe dreams days). I guess eventually I gave up on that idea and just joined Lossless Legs.

I guess the point is, mark me down in the "Rhino Sucks" category...

Yep, I was once a wannabe drooler, aspiring to the 80s as I reveled in the 70s, but then I saw the light.

I gradually cleaned up, started breathing thru my nose, and in no time at all I was first rate 60s fan!
